Jointly organized by the Graduate School and the School of Foreign Languages, the 1stSJTU Academic Presentation Competition for Master’s Students provides participants with the opportunity to further develop their academic, presentation, and research communication skills through showcasing their research to a broad audience.
About the competition
This competition challenges participants to introduce the state of the art in their own research area to an intelligent but non-specialist audience in just three minutes.
Eligibility
Active Master’s students of SJTU are eligible to participate in the competition.
Rules for the competition
Presentations are limited to three minutes and competitors exceeding three minutes are disqualified.
One single static slide is permitted (no slide transitions or animations).
No additional props (e.g. costumes, musical instruments, laboratory equipment, animated backgrounds) are permitted.
No additional electronic media (e.g. sound and video files) are permitted within the presentation.
Presentations are to be spoken word (e.g. no poems, raps or songs).
Presentations are considered to have commenced when the presenter starts the presentation through movement or speech (timing does not include the presenter’s title slide).
The decision of the adjudicating panel is final.
Speakers should present in professional attire.

Semi-final competition.
Wednesday, 18th November 2020, 12:20-16:00 p.m., RM 121, Chen Rui Qiu BLDG, Minhang campus

Registration
Depending on your status, choose one of the following ways for registration.
1.Students currently taking the course “English for Academic Purposes” (EAP) in Fall, 2020:
（1）Sign up with your instructor before Nov. 2nd, 2020;
（2）Submit slides before Nov. 7th, 2020 to mspresentation@126.com (add a title slide to the front of the single static slide and name the slide file with your own name).
2.Students who completed the course “English for Academic Purposes” (EAP) before Fall, 2020:
（1）Scan the QR code between Nov. 2nd- 7th, 2020 for registration;
（2）Submit slides before Nov. 7th, 2020 to mspresentation@126.com (add a title slide to the front of the single static slide and name the slide file with your own name).
首届上海交通大学硕士生学术英语演讲比赛报名通知
各位硕士生同学：
为了进一步提升我校硕士生在学术、演讲及研究交流方面的能力，上海交通大学研究生院和上海交通大学外国语学院将联袂举办首届上海交通大学硕士生学术英语演讲比赛。现将比赛相关情况及工作安排通知如下：
比赛形式
本次比赛要求参赛者在三分钟时间内向无相关专业背景的听众介绍自己研究领域的新技术、新方法，用生动、易懂的演讲内容和语言表述吸引听众、促进交流。
参赛人资格说明
参赛人须为上海交通大学在读硕士生。
比赛要求
演讲时间严格限定在三分钟之内；超过三分钟，视为不合格。
只允许使用一页幻灯片。演讲过程中显示单张静态幻灯片（无幻灯片切换或动画）。
不可出现附加道具（如：服装，乐器，实验室设备，动画背景等）。
演讲中不允许使用其他的电子媒体素材（如：音乐或录像）。
演讲需以白话进行，不可出现诗句、说唱或演唱等其他语言形式。
当演讲者通过动作或语言开始演讲时即开始计时。
评审委员会的决定将为最终结果。
参赛选手需着正装进行演讲。

请依据各自情况，选择相应的报名方式：
1.2020年秋季学期正在修读“学术英语”课程的学生
（1）请于2020年11月2日前联系各自的任课老师报名；
（2）请于2020年11月7日前，提交幻灯片至mspresentation@126.com（在单张静态幻灯片前添加标题页，并以个人姓名命名文件）。
2.2020年秋季学期之前已经修完“学术英语”课程的学生
（1）请于2020年11月2日至7日期间自行扫描以下二维码报名；
（2）请于2020年11月7日前，提交幻灯片至mspresentation@126.com（在单张静态幻灯片前添加标题页，并以个人姓名命名文件）。
