Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) began to offer post-graduate education in 1931, and established the Graduate School in 1984. Upholding the SJTU tradition of “high starting point, solid foundation, strict requirement, emphasizing practice, and pursuing innovation”, the Graduate School cultivated various kinds of excellent talents to meet the needs of the country. Hitherto, 80,861 Master or Doctor Degrees have been awarded to the graduate students.
SJTU has established a complete post-graduate education and degree-awarding system, with36 doctorate degree awarding first-level disciplines,57 master degree awarding first-level disciplines, 3 professional doctoral degree awarding units, and 23 professional master’s degree awarding units. Currently, there are 28,353 registered postgraduates, including 13,746 full-time master students, 7,782 part-time master students, and 6,274 full-time doctoral students. There is also a team of high qualities, including42 academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences or Chinese Academy of Engineering, 94 Thousand Talents Plan professors, 60 Thousand Youth Talents professors,130 Chang Jiang Scholars, 107 winners of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars,11 innovative research groups funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and 21 innovative research teams funded by the Ministry of Education of China.
With 120 years of glorious history, SJTU is marching on the road to becoming a world’s first-class university. Aiming to train “future scholars and industry leaders with international visions and innovation ability”, adhering to the education philosophy of “knowledge delivering + ability training + personality cultivation”, the Graduate School of SJTU continues to deepen its education reform, devoting to provide world first-class graduate education and making substantial contribution in building SJTU the world’s first-class university.
Currently, the Graduate School is composed of Graduate Admission Affairs Office (for domestic students),Academic Affairs Office, Degree Affairs Office, Discipline Affairs Office, International Affairs Office, Graduate Education Service Center, and Administration Office.
