On the morning of January 8, 2023, Shanghai Jiao Tong University's 2024 North American Admission Seminar for International Students was held online. The Graduate School and the International Student Development Center of SJTU gave a program presentation to North American students, with warm interaction and 150 real-time online inquiries.
The North American presentation was organized by the Center for Sino-Foreign Language Exchange and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education and Hankao International. The Graduate School and the International Student Development Center of the university represented the university to deliver the international students' program of the university. Vice Dean of the Graduate School, Jinhua Cheng, delivered a welcome speech at the seminar, and the Director of the International Office at the Graduate School, Qian Wang, and the Admissions Officer at the International Student Development Center, Yuexin Wang, introduced the programs and admissions policies for international graduate and undergraduate students, and had a lively interaction with 150 attendees on the spot. The seminar has enhanced the visibility of our international student programs in North America.
The Admission Seminar began with a promotional video titled "SJTU, Where You Realize Your Dreams," which not only showcased the university's rich history and vibrant research atmosphere but also presented the open and inclusive campus culture and beautiful campus environment in a vivid and intuitive manner. The promotional video was well-received by international students. Following the video, the Vice Dean of the Graduate School expressed gratitude to the students attending the seminar, and then Qian Wang, provided a detailed introduction to Shanghai Jiao Tong University's educational history, international reputation, academic disciplines, research strength, etc. Additionally, she introduced the campus buildings and environment of Minhang and Xuhui campuses in the way of pictures. Furthermore, she provided a comprehensive explanation of the eligibility criteria, application process, scholarship opportunities, and other relevant matters for international graduate students applying for the 2024 academic year.
The Graduate School has been continuously expanding its channels for international admissions promotion, innovating promotional methods, and making efforts to improve the quality of our student body, as well as enhance the influence and reputation of the university's international graduate programs.
In 2023, the Graduate School held a total of 12 online and offline international admissions presentations, including 4 offline and 8 online, and created a new online admissions model of "1+16" and "1+10". The elimination rate of international graduate students has exceeded 50% for six consecutive years. At the same time, the number of students from the top 300 universities in the world has been increasing, including many students from the University of Toronto, McGill University, Boston University, University of Oxford, King's College London, University of Warwick, Moscow State University, University of Sydney, University of Melbourne, University of Queensland, Nanyang Technological University, National University of Singapore, Kyoto University, Yonsei University, and other top overseas universities. In terms of brand promotion of international programs for international students, the Internationalization Office of the Graduate School has presented awards for the International Student Short Video Competition and held more than ten international student cultural salons, which effectively promoted the construction of an international cultural environment on campus.
