On December 1-2, the 24th CSS-EEST International Academic Conference of Campus Asia was held at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The conference was hosted by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and organized by Kyushu University, Pusan National University and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. The two-day conference was held online and offline. More than 100 experts and scholars from four universities in the fields of energy, environmental science and technology and postgraduate students in related fields attended the conference.
Graduate Education Cooperation Program in the field of Energy and Environment Science and technology (CAMPUS Asia Plus EEST) is jointly launched by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Kyushu University, Pusan National University and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. The project was prepared in September 2010 and selected as a pilot project of the Ministry of Education in 2012. The program aims to cultivate globally talents, develop a high quality graduate education system, and finally cultivate the next generation of high-level professionals in the field of EEST. After several rounds of discussions between the four universities, various programs and activities were finally established, with the cross-university master double degree program as the core, it covers a number of high-level academic activities such as student exchange, international summer school, international academic report conference and so on. The Campus Asia CSS-EEST Symposium is held annually in each spring and Autumn semester and it is hosted alternately by four universities in China, Japan, Korea and Malaysia. Scholars and experts, graduate students and senior undergraduate students from the fields of energy, environmental science and technology are invited to participate in the symposium. It is mainly held in the form of academic conference, with oral presentation, poster display, academic visit and other links arranged. At the same time, scholars from the four universities are invited to give keynote reports at the conference. To this day, CSS-EEST has been successfully held for the 24th time. The event attracted more than 1,000 graduate students from the four universities in the fields of EEST.
In the welcoming address, Prof. Cheng Jinhua, Deputy Dean of the Graduate School of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, expressed his gratitude to the three partner schools for their long-term support and efforts for the Campus Asia program. The Program provides an excellent platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience between our university and the graduate students of Asian universities. Prof. Hideharu NAKASHIMA, Dean of the Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Engineering Science of Kyushu University, Prof. LEE Donggeun, Dean of Asian Campus Programme of Pusan National University, and Prof. Zaini AHMAD, Dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, delivered the opening remarks respectively. The forum was hosted by Wang Qian, Director of the International Affairs Office of the Graduate School, Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
During the keynote speech, Prof. Henry Kang Hooi Siang from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia delivered a presentation titled "Advances in Hydrodynamic Model Testing related to Research Activities of Marine Technology and Ocean Engineering in Malaysia". Professor Andrew Spring from Kyushu University shared his research on "Living polymerization for Engineering Applications". Prof. HeeChang Lim of Pusan National University gave a keynote presentation on “Application of AI/DL on the fluid dynamics”. Professor Zhou Baowen from the School of Mechanical Engineering of Shanghai Jiao Tong University gave a speech on "Toward Carbon Neutrality by III-nitrides/Si-based Artificial Photosynthesis Integrated Device and System", and systematically introduced the latest research progress of III-nitrides/Si-based Artificial Photosynthesis, which explored an effective way to economize on fossil fuels and achieve carbon neutrality.
The keynote speech and oral presentation lasted for two days and was carried out online. There were 18 sub-forums on three subjects, namely energy, environment and materials. Nearly 100 master's and doctoral students participated in the oral presentation. The participating experts, scholars and international master and doctoral students made presentations on new discoveries in frontier fields such as new energy development and utilization, special materials and engineering thermal physics, and actively shared the achievements of academic exchanges. During the PDCA conference, the professors of the four schools and the Asia Campus staff had a full discussion on dual degree and exchange students, the upcoming Spring Symposium, the Collaborative Online International Learning Program (COIL), and the signing of the COIL Agreement. On the afternoon of December 2, Prof. Wang Qian of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Prof. WONG King Jye of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Prof. LEE Donggeun of Pusan National University and Prof. THU Kyaw of Kyushu University delivered closing speeches respectively.
The construction of human ecological civilization and the sustainable development of the world are closely related to the support of strategic disciplines such as energy, environment, materials and mechanical engineering. Against the background of ever-closer global cooperation and an increasingly international academic horizon, the success of the 24th Asia Campus Plus International Academic Conference is of great significance. Experts from the four universities shared their experience and tried to find common development, which will not only play an important role in promoting the discipline construction of higher education institutions in Asia and the exchange of human resources, but also provide new inspiration for promoting the sustainable development of human society.
