Notice on Chinese Proficiency Placement for 2020 SJTU International Graduate Students

Dear International Students,

Welcome to join Shanghai Jiao Tong University!

For all international students, there are two compulsory courses that will be arranged based on your proficiency in Chinese, namely Chinese and Introduction to Chinese Culture. The former will be divided into 4 levels: Elementary (1 & 2) and Intermediate (1 & 2), while the latter will be instructed in either Chinese or English.

Due to the COVID19 outbreak, it is not likely for us to organize a Chinese proficiency placement test. Instead, you are asked to report your Chinese level and we will enroll in the corresponding class of Chinese and Introduction to Chinese Culture. Please follow the instructions listed below:

Please find out your level code according to the description in the table. Please try to estimate your proficiency level by yourself.

Step 2

Please login with your jAccount at https://tongqu.sjtu.edu.cn/act/23815 and provide your level code before September 4th, 2020.

In case you fail to report your Chinese proficiency level, you will be enrolled into the beginner level classes automatically.

In case you have difficulty to figure out your level code by yourself, please:

1)Install the smartphone app “wechat/weixin”.

2)Add “wjchs1” (Prof. Wang Jun) as contact.

3)Contact Prof. Wang and he will help to find out your level code via chatting.

4)You should then go back to step 2 and provide the information on the website.

Students who have passed HSK 5 or higher level can apply to exempt the Chinese Course. The eligible students shall send a copy of the HSK 5 or HSK 6 certificate, together with the information page of his/her passport, and the admission letter to Ms. Jiang: joeyjiang@sjtu.edu.cn before September 4th, 2020.
