Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) is an international institution located in one of the world’s most international cities. Each year we admit students from nearly 70 countries making the university a rich and diverse learning environment. We offer a wide range of graduate programs to international students including 61 master programs and 39 doctoral programs in 25 different departments. Mode of study for the master programs is 2-3 years (Full-time); for the doctorial programs is 3-4 years (Full-time).

APPLICANT ELIGIBILITY  

lNon-Chinese citizen without physical and mental problems.

lMaster program applicants must have a bachelor degree. The date due to obtain a bachelor degree should be prior to the admission date.

lDoctoral program applicants must have a master degree. The date due to obtain a master degree should be prior to the admission date.

lApplicants for programs taught in Chinese must complete the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) band 5 (minimum score 180). International students who obtained the degree from a Chinese program in China areexempt.

lApplicants for programs taught in English must complete the IELTS (minimum score 6) or TOEFL (minimum score 90). International students whose first language are English, or obtained the degree from an English program in an English speaking country are exempt.

IMPORTANT DATES AND DEADLINES

December 1st, 2015: Start of Application

March 15th, 2016: Deadline for type A scholarship application  

April 30th, 2016: Deadline for type B/C/D scholarships application

May 30th, 2016: Deadline for self-supported application

HOW TO APPLY        

Step 1: Complete the Online Application

Complete and submit an online application at Study@SJTU (http://apply.sjtu.edu.cn/) by the application deadline.

    You are required to upload the following documents onto the website.

    1. Degree certificates. Must be original or notarized (Chinese or English notaries are both acceptable). Students who have not yet graduated should provide an official letter from your university stating the expected graduation date.

    2. Transcripts. Must be original or notarized (Chinese or English notaries are both acceptable)

    3. Language proficiency certificate and score report

    4. Passport

    5. Passport-size photo

    6. Personal statement and study plan

    7. Two recommendation letters from associate professors or scholars with higher academic titles. Reference information such as the referees, phone number and email address must be included

NoteThe application should be done online. Applicants DO NOT need to mail the paper application materials.

Step 2: Pay the Application Fee

The application fee is CNY 800 or USD 130, non-refundable and non-transferable. Payment must be made using CNY or USD. You can choose online payment or bank transfer in the online application system.

TUITION AND HOUSING FEES

l  Tuition*: CNY 28900/Year for Master programs (Approx. USD 4670/ Year)

      CNY 45500/Year for Doctoral programs (Approx. USD 7350/Year)

l  Housing: CNY 50-150/Day on-campus (Approx. USD 8-25/Day)

*Tuition may differ for programs in Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance, Antai College of Economics & Management,USC-SJTU Institute of Cultural and Creative Industry,School of Media & Design and Koguan Law School. For more information, please contact the corresponding school directly.

1. Typically, the support duration cannot be extended. All scholarship recipients are obliged to attend the annual comprehensive scholarship assessment during April and May of each year to verify qualification of the scholarship for the next year. Excellent graduate students can also get certain financial support by applying for proper TA or RA positions in campus. How to Apply

lFor Chinese Government Scholarship (Doctoral Program Type A1 and Master Program Type A), applicants must apply at both China Scholarship Council (CSC) (http://laihua.csc.edu.cn) and Study@SJTU (http://apply.sjtu.edu.cn/). Applicants are also encouraged to apply to China Scholarship Council through recommendations from Chinese Embassies, or relevant organizations in the home countries of the applicants between November and April (varies for different countries).

lFor Shanghai Government Scholarship (Doctoral Program Type A2), applicants must apply at both Study in Shanghai (http://www.study-shanghai.org) and Study@SJTU (http://apply.sjtu.edu.cn/).

lFor Type B, Type C and Type D applicants must apply through Study@SJTU (http://apply.sjtu.edu.cn/).

The Instructions of the Insurance

All international students of SJTU with study duration over 6 months are required to purchase the group comprehensive insurance in Mainland China in accordance with the relevant regulations by the Ministry of Education of People’s Republic of China. Moreover, all individual insurance contracts are NOT acceptable for the registration in SJTU and application of residence permit. The student without valid group comprehensive insurance will NOT be allowed to register in a new semester.

The name of the group comprehensive insurance is:Comprehensive Insurance & Protection Scheme for Foreigners Staying in China of Ping An Annuity Insurance Company, Ltd..The premium of the group comprehensive insurance is RMB800/one year or RMB400/half year. Please log in www.lxbx.net to look up and download the detailed information on the group comprehensive insurance such like the articles, insurance liabilities, insurance claims etc.
